earth tremor in selby

What a surprise, sitting down relaxing for the evening, when a distant rumble could be heard, the house started shaking and I thought for all intents and purpose it was thunder. When the house continued to shake I realised that it was an earth tremor. It’s an eerie feeling, not one we’re very used to in Australia.

I loathe earthquakes, I first experienced one in California in 1980, I didn’t like it then and I still don’t like them. The feeling of loss of control is one I find difficult to reconcile. I hope all is well out there in Melbourne, we’ve had enough to contend with of late.

Well . . . . . the cats even came inside! It is not a nice feeling. My husband ran downstairs as the windows were shaking up there and it sounded like a herd of elephants running under our house and down the driveway.

Thanks, I thought I was imagining things. We distinctly felt a tremor at about 9:00pm here in Rosebud. We took the family on holiday to the UK in 1987 and on the way stopped in LA. We experienced a 5.5 tremor while we slept and that was so eerie but next morning no-one at the hotel seemed in the least perturbed.

just now at ~9pm 6March2009 the whole building 26 Garton Street in North Carlton shook.
A small earth tremor.
One of my neighbours, came out in surprise as well.

My first thought was: Glad we insured the place !
very unusual for Melbourne, not sure how far it was noticed, could be very local, but very strange.

certainly gave me a fright as I dont think I have ever felt a tremor that strong. I live in Ringwood East everything was rattling for at least 20 to 30 seconds. After it had stopped I rang my parents in Rosebud they had also felt it.

The Herald Sun reports it was 4.6 on the Richter Scale, with the epicentre near Korrumburra, no wonder we felt it all across Melbourne.

We've got the house that jack built, and boy did it shake, heaps of things rattled around! It was like thunder rolling in, but coming from the wrong direction, underneath the house......Scary... hope they don't get too frequent !

All the talk at Kallista Market today was about last night's earth tremor. People across the Dandenongs felt the earth move, The Patch, Kallista, Upwey, Selby, Sherbrooke all felt the tremor and it was certainly talk of the town.
