making students safer

It's terrific to see the new school crossing in operation at Menzies Creek Primary School. Yarra Ranges Council is not only responsible for installing new crossings, we employ our wonderful crossing supervisors as well.

The crossing provides students with an added level of safety as they cross the road to get to school.

The installation of the crossing is complimented by an upgraded footpath network in the area to encourage walking to school. It's great to see parents and students walking to school, I'm pleased to see this project delivered in the Lyster Ward.

School signs (in moderation) are fine but the over-proliferation of other road signs are a visual pollutipo in our community. Why for example do we need a sign in the Sherbrooke Forest National Park (as you approach Kallista) stating/advising there is a 50 zone ahead when the 50 kmh sign is already in sight just some 10s metres beyond. These signs do not deteriorate they just multiply effectively like ivy.

Council (or someone) then (probably drives by) indiscrimantly sprays the base of all these posts and the 1metre or so of bank behind them. This not only kills of a strip of grass but also initiates water gullying. Take a look at the 30-40 roadside posts on the east side of belgrave kallista road and count the percentage with excessive sprayng and the percetntage that have started to develop erosional gullies
