I was delighted to be invited to the 2012 Monbulk Aquatic Club Presentation Night to present the perpetual Yarra Ranges Handicap Trophy - 400mts.

Always a hotly contested trophy, club swimmers are always left guessing who'll be the winner.

It is a delight to present the award and share the surprise and delight of the winner and their family.

This year's winner, Nathir Alkhlawi hails from Monbulk and is a keen swimmer.

He was very happy to receive the 2012 perpetual trophy.

I was also delighted to be able to announce a grant of $5,000 to assist the Monbulk Aquatic Club maintain their club whilst their "home ground", the Monbulk Pool, is under refurbishment.

It's a challenging year for the club with no pool to call home and club members are all very keen to see the Monbulk Pool refurbishment completed, which I'm sure will see the club go from strength to strength. 

I was impressed to learn that the club is still growing with at least 31 swimmers, for a club with no pool this year, that's a tremendous vote of confidence in the club and what they offer. I congratulate Marg Evans, President of the Monbulk Aquatic Club, her committee, the families and swimmers that make up Monbulk Aquatic Club.

It was wonderful to join with local families in the 2011 Monbulk Aquatic Club presentation night.

The awards are a great way to recognise the contribution of past and present swimmers, committee members and the wonderful volunteers that make the club run so smoothly.

I was there to present the Yarra Ranges Perpetual Trophy for the 400mt Freestyle Handicap.

























This year's winner, Cooper Bass, loves swimming for the club, he also took out the boys most improved first year swimming perpetual trophy.

The trophy is one of the most hotly contested perpetual trophies with the winner remaining a mystery right up till the awards.

It's terrific to see the enthusiam young people have for the sport. The Monbulk Aquatic Club plays a key role in providing opportunities for young swimmers, there is no doubt they are passionate about their sport and dedicate many volunteer hours to the club and its swimmers.

It was terrific to join with families across the region to celebrate the achievements of young swimmers from the Monbulk Aquatic Club. I was delighted to be able to present the Shire of Yarra Ranges perpetual trophy for the 400mt Freestyle Handicap.

It is one of the most hotly contested perpetual trophies within the club and often the most mysterious as it leaves swimmers guessing who the winner is.

This year Natalie Grey took out the trophy, Natalie comes from a family of keen swimmers, Natalie and her 2 sisters joined the club in February 2009 and are going from strength to strength.










Monbulk Aquatic Club plays an important role in our community promoting and encouraging young people to take up the sport of swimming. They are passionate about their sport and look forward to seeing the Monbulk Pool redeveloped.

It was presentation night for season 2008/09 for the Monbulk Aquatic Club. I was pleased to be invited to attend to hand out Club Championship Medallions and the Shire of Yarra Ranges Handicap Trophy for 400m freestyle.

Guest speaker for the night was Emily Rooke, Australian representative for the World Triathlon Championships. She talked about the passion she had for her sport and the importance of writing down your goals.

The Shire of Yarra Ranges Handicap Trophy is a hotly contested perpetual trophy for the club and it is the one trophy that leaves people guessing who the winner is right up to the last minute. It was great to announce Ryan Pinchbeck winner of the trophy for this season, Ryan was greeted with a great cheer from the crowd as he came down to accept his trophy.

It was a terrific night and there was a lot of talk and a great deal of excitement about the redevelopment of the Monbulk pool. I have been working with the club and community members as part of the Project Control Group for the redevelopment. Refurbishment of the pool is well overdue and I look forward to seeing the redevelopment project come to fruition.
