I had a terrific day with the Sherbrooke Forest District Scouts Founders Day at Lillydale Lake. An annual event, it gives young people from the hills the opportunity to experience a range of water events.

I had a great time exploring Lillydale Lake and the Olinda Creek with help from Phil, Leader with the Monbulk Group.

Particpants were treated to a range of activities including the water cannon, canoeing, balancing on the inflatable pier. The day included the rafting competition, fondly named "Slaughter on the Water".





Part of my official duties including handing out certificates of service to Leaders. It's terrific to be able to acknowledge the help of these committed volunteers.

Once again it was a great day out, the Sherbrooke Forest District has 11 scout groups and their participation rate across the hills is growing. I'm always impressed by their dedication to young people, providing them with opportunities to experience many things whilst building their life skills.

It was terrific to be able to join the Sherbrooke Forest District Scouts at their Founders Day celebration at Lillydale Lake.

Scouts, young and old enjoyed a range of water activities including canoeing, water sports and water cannons. It's a terrific way for children to learn water skills in a safe and fun environment.

The Sherbrooke Forest District are starting a recruitment drive for new members, I was pleased to help them out with some funding from my community ward fund for advertising banners.

Mark Goodchild is passionate about Scouts and is the Water Activities Leader in the district.

The scouting movement provides young people with some great opportunities, to learn skills that will see them through life as well as making lasting friendships. I'm impressed by the passion shown by this dedicated group of volunteers, they're quite inspiring.

The day finished with all troupes on parade and the lowering of the flag.

It was terrific to join with the Sherbrooke Forest District Scouts for their AGM and Presentation night for 2009/10.

Scout Leaders from across the region representing cubs, scouts, venturers and rovers came out to celebrate the past year of activities and achievements.

The Sherbrooke Forest District Scouts have had experienced some tremendous growth, across the district its been 7.9% compared with a state average of 3%. Its terrific to see children joining up for the scouting experience.

It was wonderful to join the celebration of the 25 year service award for District Leader Support, Denis Toogood. 25 years in a volunteer role is a wonderful contribution and Denis is certainly committed to the Scouts.

The Chief Commissioner's award was handed out to the 1st Belgrave South, 1st Kallista, 1st Selby and 1st Upwey groups to recognise growth of greater than 10% in the last 12 months.

I was struck by the committment and dedication of all the people involved with the Sherbrooke Forest District Scouts. They are passionate about our young people and teaching them skills they can use throughout their life.
