I'm delighted to announce that I have been preselected to run for the Greens as the lead upper house candidate for the Eastern Metropolitan region.

I am humbled and honoured to be preselected as we head towards the state election in 2014. I am encouraged by the faith the members across Eastern Metropolitan have shown in my capacity to run a strong campaign and to ultimately represent them in the Victorian Parliament.

I would never have thought that my quest to save a council run childcare centre back in 2005 would lead me on this journey. Holding public office has been a very rewarding experience. It’s a great privilege and I am very committed to working on behalf of the community.

I will lead a strong and enthusiastic campaign, I’m proud to be representing the Greens as the lead candidate for Eastern Metropolitan. In the weeks to come I will be developing an alternate online presence for campaigning with my blog continuing to highlight my activities as Lyster Ward councillor for the Yarra Ranges Shire Council.

Now the dust has well and truly settled thought I'd have a look at how the Greens primary vote fared in the local area.

This time round I can report that Kallista had the highest Greens vote, at the last state election it was Selby. Has there been a shift, did the Kallista Market play a role in terms of where people cast their vote? The next test between Selby and Kallista, next year's state election!

Here's the results of the Greens primary vote in the top 20 polling booths across the federal electorates of Casey and Latrobe.

On September 7, National Threatened Species day, you'll be asked to cast your vote in the federal election. There is one party who stands up for our threatened species and environment, stands up for social justice and asylum seekers, stands up for democracy, stands up for real action on climate change and stands up for peace.

That party is The Greens, standing up for what matters.

It was great to see Greens candidate for LaTrobe, Michael Schilling, campaigning at Kallista Market today.

 

Michael got a great response from locals keen to know more about the Greens and pleased to be able to meet the candidate in person.

Michael currently works as a Registered Nurse, so has an innate passion for quality healthcare and mental health. He also wants to see better educational outcomes for children and the move to a more sustainable economy.
